'Step Therapy': Beneficial or Detrimental to Patient Health?
Health insurers using a program known as "step therapy" require physicians to prescribe less costly medications to their patients before graduating to more expensive options, even when physicians believe the cheaper drug will not work. Insurance companies claim that step therapy provides patients with the most effective treatment at a reasonable cost, but frustrations are mounting among physicians who feel that insurers are playing doctor and putting their patients at risk by delaying access to appropriate treatment.
Do you often disagree with insurers about which drug a patient should take?
