Is Medicare’s ‘Flat Fee’ Payment Proposal Worth It?
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have proposed a plan to “reduce paperwork and improve patient care.” The new plan would combine 4 levels of paperwork required for reimbursement, and 4 levels of payments, into 1 form and 1 flat fee for each doctor’s appointment, regardless of whether the doctor is primary care or a specialist. This could adversely affect specialists who spend more time with complex patients. Is the reduced time spent on paperwork worth the reduced payment?
