Can buying broadband or computer for someone improve their health?
The rapid expanse of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic has allowed clinicians to practice at a safe distance, but has also allowed them to offer more convenient access for patients and to scale their practice, in some instances, beyond their existing four walls. Despite rules changing to allow for reimbursement of telemedicine consults, the lack of broadband infrastructure and adequate technology makes these changes predominantly benefit only one group of patients. Should CMS consider subsidising or reimbursing patients who could benefit from telehealth to improve their access to technology and broadband?
