Should All Emergency Physicians Have the Right to Due Process?
Physicians who are employed by hospitals have the right to due process, which affords them a fair hearing and a right to appeal if their medical privileges are terminated. However, more than 30% of emergency room (ER) physicians work for contract management groups that are not legally required to honor a physician’s right to due process. This could make some emergency physicians hesitant to speak up in untenable workplace situations or advocate for themselves and their patients.
Hospital-employed doctors have the right to due process, but ER doctors who work for contract management groups waive this right. This may make some hesitant to advocate for patients. Are you for or against all ER doctors having the right to due process?
