Should Undocumented Seniors Receive Public Health Insurance?
Illinois has become the first state to provide public health insurance to all low-income senior citizens, even if they are in the United States illegally. Individuals who advocate for universal coverage say that many undocumented people pay taxes without being eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, and spending this money on preventive care will be more cost-effective in the long run. However, others feel that this expansion of coverage is a reckless move for Illinois, which has taken a financial hit from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Illinois has begun to provide public health insurance to undocumented seniors. While some feel this is fiscally reckless, others believe it will ultimately help save money. Are you for or against providing undocumented seniors with health insurance?
