Should Insurers Continue to Waive Fees and Deductibles for Telemedicine?
Two of the largest health insurance companies, Anthem and United Healthcare, are no longer waiving copayments and deductibles for virtual doctor’s visits that are unrelated to COVID-19. These waivers were implemented in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic to encourage patients to use alternatives to in-person care. Now, although cases of COVID-19 are rising and many patients are still wary of in-person care, some insurance companies are reluctant to extend the waivers. However, this could discourage people from seeking medical care.
Some health insurance companies have stopped waiving fees for telemedicine visits. Although insurers are reluctant to continue waivers, this may discourage people from seeking care. Are you for or against insurance companies waiving fees for telemedicine?
